2017 updates from Southern Africa

The February 2017 edition of the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU)’s newsletter is now available on line containing key news from Southern Africa.

In particular, SACAU reports on the finalization of their organizational assessment carried out by Agriterra paving a way for the business for an agri-agency. The final stage of the process will be the formulation of a business plan.

The newsletter also provides information on the General Assembly of the Pan African Farmers’ Organization (PAFO) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 18th February 2017, that brought to the election of Mr. Abdelmajid Ezzar, President of Union Maghrebine et Nord Africaine des Agriculteurs (UMNAGRI) as its President.

Also, the ACP-EU Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) in partnership with SACAU hosted a meeting in September 2016 in Johannesburg to launch a flagship project that seeks to promote climate-resilient cereal and livestock farming in Southern Africa. The project will provide support towards the adoption of four solutions by cereal and livestock farmers in order to build climate resilient systems in selected countries in the region.
