ROPPA's regional workshop in Burkina Faso

From 19 to 22 December the Réseau des Organisations Paysannes et des Producteurs Agricoles de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (ROPPA) organized its regional workshop to assess the results achieved in the implementation of the 2016 annual work plan and discuss the 2017 workplan of the network. The workshop, held in Koudougou, Burkina Faso, was attended by representatives of the 13 national member platforms, the rice and fisheries dialogue frameworks and the staff of the executive secretariat.

The meeting helped to facilitate the preparation of the 2016 performance report of the network, and to plan activities for 2017. The workshop also enabled organizations to start a self-evaluation of the ROPPA’s strategic plan, showing a high level of financial mobilization by organizations and a physical achievement of expected outputs varying between 65 and 80%.

In addition, major difficulties were identified, including the delay in the provision of funds for the implementation of certain initiatives, the overlap in the programming of certain activities and the lack of technical staff.

At the end of the workshops, commitments were made for the good running of the network, and recommendations formulated. These included the need to improve monitoring and evaluation through the farmers’ university, continue strengthening the capacity of technical staff and consider organizing periodic monitoring/assessment meetings to review the implementation of activities and to ensure better ownership of the annual work plan.
