Policy dialogue on agribusiness and value chains development in agriculture in Lesotho

The Lesotho National Farmers Union (LENAFU), member of the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU)  hosted a policy dialogue meeting on the 28th November 2013 at Mmelesi Lodge, Thaba Bosiu.

The theme of the dialogue was “Agribusiness and value chains development in agriculture”. The meeting was attended by approximately 60 members of LENAFU representing district union/associations and commodity associations as well as representatives from Basotho Development Enterpise Corporation (BEDCO), Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Standard Lesotho Bank and National University of Lesotho.

The discussion focused on the following issues: (i) Success factors in commercial farming; (ii) Importance of agriculture to development; (iii) Role of financial and marketing institutions in agribusiness.
