EAFF: 2nd Regional CAADP Forum for Eastern Africa

A regional forum was created by the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme aiming at sharing and learning among farmers, experts and decision makers from different agricultural subsectors, to foster the up scaling of best practices across Africa as an input into country-driven development of the agriculture and rural sector.

The 2nd Regional CAADP Forum for Eastern Africa was convened by EAFF in close collaboration with the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency and Regional Economic Communities from Eastern Africa in Kenya, under the theme “Small-holder Commercialization: livestock and potato value chains in Eastern Africa".

The objectives of the forum were to

  • Learn and share on two preselected commodities (livestock and potato) best practices through technical presentations, field visits and discussions
  • Guide/inform policy discussions on the two commodities, discussing the role of governments, policy, regulations, budgeting, programmes and best practices.

As part of the learning process, several fields trips were organized for participants (e.g. to farms in arm in Maragua Mbombo and Sagana, the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) in Naivasha, the Regional Center of Excellence for Dairy, the ARI National Potato Reseacrh Center, the International Potato Centre (CIP) Plant Quarantine Station in Muguga.

As an outcome from the event, national action plans were developed by EAFF members (please read the report below).

A total of 70 participants attended the conference, including representatives from EAFF members  in Djibouti, DRC Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda, donor organizations and COMESA.
